FinnishPod101

FinnishPod101 offers hundreds of high quality audio and video lessons for absolute beginners to more advanced learners. Audio lessons teach you not only Finnish vocabulary and grammar but also culture in relevant context. In addition, you have access to wordbank, flashcards, detailed lesson notes and more. 

Italki

On Italki, you can find inexpensive 1-on-1 speaking lessons with native Finns. A great option for you if you don't have Finns in your area and want to improve your Finnish skills in a practice environment. 

Duolingo

Duolingo is a world-famous language learning platform. They recently added the long-awaited Finnish course to learn about the Finnish language & culture.

Cityshoppari offers hundreds of discount coupons for many stores in Finland, including clothes, restaurants, hotels, and more. You can access all coupons with an annual payment of 14.99€.

NordNet - Start Investing in Finland

NordNet is a leading investment platform in the Nordic countries, including Finland. By creating a free account, you can build your wealth by investing your money to index funds, for example. Currently, the registration process is in Finnish only, but Google Translate will help. Their mobile app is available in English.

Curve Card

By using Curve card, you can put all your payment cards behind Curve, and use Curve card to do all daily payments. You can even move transactions between cards retroactively. In addition, some Finnish banks do not support Google Pay / Apple Pay directly, making it harder to use phone for contactless payments. Curve solves this problem, too. 

Offerilla

Offerilla is the largest marketplace of great offers in Finland. The idea is similar to Groupon. You can buy vouchers for 50-90% discounts for cafeterias, restaurants, gyms, beauty salons, and more. The website is only in Finnish, but Google translate can help.

Matsmart

Matsmart sells products that are either manufactured too much, the packaging is somehow incorrect, have seasonal changes, or have short best-before dates. Matsmart simply saves the products and sells them to you at super discounts. Through Matsmart you can save food and save money at the same time. Matsmart is available in Finnish, but Google Translate Helps.

Mobify - Earn extra cash by paying bills

You can add your regular bills, such as phone plans, Electricity, credit cards etc., to Mobify and earn cash of 0.3% of the billable sum.

Accommondation in Finland

Sato Apartments

Sato offers long-term rental apartments in Finland. You can apply for apartments online and choose multiple options with a single application. The whole rental process is available in English. I have been their customer before and can totally recommend them. 

Lumo Apartments

Lumo is similar to Sato and they also offer different types of retal apartments in Finland. Their service is available in English and the whole rental process can be done online. I have not personally lived in their apartments but I have heard good of them.

Short-term Accommodation in Finland

Forenom

Forenom is a great choice for short-term accommondation. For example, when you move to Finland, you can't secure a proper rental flat before arriving. Forenom offers flexible furnished apartments where you can stay until you get settled in Finland. Noli offers apartments in many cities around Finland.

Noli Studios

Noli Studios is a fresh concept where you get a rental apartment with hotel level amenities, such as bi-weekly cleaning, gym, sauna & spa, working Facilities and more. I used to live at Noli for a year. You can choose between long-term and short-term options. With a single monthly payment, you will get all you need from electricity to internet.

Transportation Services

Uber

You most likely know Uber, which offers an effortless way to get a taxi. It works in the bigger cities of Finland. With the app, you set your destination and pay as well. ​

Bolt Taxi

Bolt is a competitor of Uber and works just like Uber. They offer reasonably priced taxis in the capital area (at the time of writing this). I have used Bolt many times. Get a discount for your first rides using my link.

02 Taksi

02 Taksi searches the closest taxi providers near you and lists them for you. It works like a combination of Airbnb & Uber. You can set your destination in the app and pay for your ride. You will see the prices before placing an order. Click the affiliate link below to get a discount for your first rides. The app works in English.

Tier E-Scooters

Tier offers are really fun and convenient way to get around. You simply download the mobile app, create a free account, and add your payment details. Then you can locate available scooters and ride them to get around. You can leave them anywhere within the allowed range.

Books about Finland

Below you find a collection of books about Finland. You can either get the books from Amazon or Adlibris. Note that Amazon offers a free Audible Trial which allows you to get one audio book for free. If you live in Finland, I recommend Adlibris because they deliver from Finland. If you live outside of Finland, Amazon will be a better choice.

Tuntematon Sotilas - The Unknown Soldiers

Unknown Soldiers is a war novel by Finnish author Väinö Linna, is one of the best-selling books in Finland and a classic in Finnish literature and a part of the Finnish legacy. Published in 1954, The Unknown Soldier chronicles the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union during 1941–1944 from the viewpoint of ordinary Finnish soldiers.

Pantsdrunk: Kalsarikanni: The Finnish Path to Relaxation

Yes, believe it or not, there is a book about Kalsarikänni: the event where you drink home, alone, and with no intentetion of going out. 

Everyday Sisu: Tapping into Finnish Fortitude for a Happier, More Resilient Life

This is the follow up book to Finnish Way by Katja Pantzar. It deepens into the elements of Sisu and you’ll discover ways to boost your mental and physical resilience to face life’s challenges head-on. This book is more like well-being book but features insights from Finnish experts in such as mental health, wellness, sustainability, social justice. Definitely a good read nevertheless for anyone into Finnishess.
