My name is Aleksi “Himself” Linna. I’m a regular Finnish guy in my early 30s, and I have a master’s degree in Business & Technology from the Tampere University of Technology. After university, I used to work as a B2B sales professional. In 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith, and currently, I’m a full-time entrepreneur & content creator. I have been creating content since 2013 and have more than 4 million views, 300+ videos, and more than 40 000 subscribers on YouTube. In addition, I have 1200+ students on my online courses.
How I discovered my passion to help people around the world with Finland.
In 2012, I started my Business & Technology studies at Tampere University of Technology. I noticed how many international students were around. Weirdly enough, I found it much easier to talk to internationals than Finns. I thought it was interesting to see so many people from different parts of the world deciding to come to Finland.
In 2013, I became a tutor for international degree students to aid their new life in Finland. In many conversations, I noticed that foreigners had questions about practicals and cultural matters in Finland. I found it very rewarding to help by sharing information and answers.
At that time, I also discovered my passion for YouTube & content creation. The YouTube channel is called Pranks from Finland, and it still exists, even if we are not making videos anymore. I started doing prank videos with my friend Paya from Iran. We did a few videos a month just for fun. We had a few videos breaking the 100k views mark, which was pretty incredible at that time.
A year in Japan helped me realize I want to make content about Finland.
In 2016, I left for Japan for exchange studies. I had to give up pranks (even though I did do a couple of them in Japan, too), I still had a growing interest in YouTube videos. I started a new channel called Aleksi Himself, where I shared my experiences from Japan. While making videos, I studied YouTube as a platform to grow a channel and create better content. The most important lesson I learned was that if I wanted to develop a small channel, I had to choose a topic instead of making videos about myself. I had received comments about life in Finland on my vlogs and did some research on YouTube. To my surprise, I realized no dedicated channels were providing valuable infotainment content about Finland.
